10/06/2010 | Beefeater Tea Salon

Contagious recently created a contemporary Tea Salon activity for Beefeater 24. The first one was hosted in Edinburgh and the G&Tea concept is now touring Europe in unusual and upmarket venues.

Beefeater 24 asked Contagious to create an English tea party with a twist; to educate trade and consumers about Beefeater 24, its tea ingredient and its sophisticated range of unique tea based cocktails and to communicate this in an interesting and memorable way.

The first Tea Salon event at Hawke & Hunter was a resounding success. Beefeater 24's Master Distiller was there to introduce guests to the wonders of gin and tea infused cocktails and tea based gin punches which were served from tea pots for guests to enjoy from fine china tea cups.

Contagious have produced a marketing gift for Chivas that promotes chivalry and brotherhood. Encased in velvet and satin this pocket sized keepsake book, bound in leather with gilt edging, is finished with an engraved tie pin. The book celebrates ancient drinking rituals reminding us of honour, friendship and gallantry.
Nominated in the Publications category at the Scottish Design Awards 2010.

Spirits entrepreneur Sukhinder Singh asked Contagious to communicate the story of The Black Tot, last remaining stocks of British Royal Navy Rum. Written by renowned journalist Dave Broom, this unique tale of liquid history hails back to the 17th Century, and follows the Tot's journey over the waves until Black Tot Day on the 28th of January 1970 when the last Navy rum tubs were consigned to the deep. Based on a leather bound hard wearing Royal Navy notebook, the design was inspired by a blend of sea tales and historical accounts of this unique rum. The illustrations by Joe Wilson embellish the story in a surreal and engaging manner which encourages the reader to delve deeper into the narrative. The book sits within a beautifully constructed wooden box below the last remaining bottles of this rare grog.
Achieved a Commendation in the Publications category at the Scottish Design Awards 2010.

Heroes, Villains & Favourite Things is a collection of writings and illustrations by pupils from Sanquhar Academy and Primary schools in Dumfries and Galloway. It was launched at WESTword:
a young writer’s Festival, developed in partnership with Wigtown Book Festival. WESTword aims to encourage a love of and joy in listening, talking, reading and writing of all kinds, through working alongside contemporary authors and their work. The writing in this anthology was created
as a direct result of the Writer’s Fellow, Julian Colton, working with the pupils over two years.

'Most school children are capable of writing a story, perhaps even a poem. However there does seem to be a perception amongst potential younger writers that creative writing, particularly starting a piece of creative writing, is difficult and especially so with regard to poetry.'

Julian Colton's job as Writer’s Fellow was to help pupils discover that writing is far from difficult
to engage with and not necessarily the chore they imagine it to be.

'In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It can be enjoyable, cathartic and even therapeutic. Given a little persistence, writing can bear wonderful fruit.'

It was our job to collate this wonderful collection of imagination and creativity by the Sanquhar cluster pupils, pushing the students further to illustrate their words with pictures and add a further dimension of engagement for the audience.

Contagious Digital have been working with The Arts Council Collection for over four years, maintaining and updating their site, to present the largest loan collection in the world of
modern and contemporary British art to the public. Recent additions include a new exhibition
showcasing one of Britain’s most respected artists, Bridget Riley, in the Walker Art Gallery
at the National Museums Liverpool.

Having designed the identity for The Kitchin, a Michelin Star restaurant in Leith, chef Tom Kitchin briefed Contagious to design and manage his website to showcase his restaurant and philosophy 'From Nature to Plate'. Tom’s passion for food is reflected through the site, where visitors can download menus and recipes, follow Tom’s travels around Scotland in search of the finest ingredients or simply order delicious chocolates made by his award-winning pastry chef Sebastian Kobelt. Tom is one of the most interesting Chefs in the UK at present and AA Gill recently wrote in The Sunday Times, "This food, so plainly Scots, not just in the use of local and national ingredients, is created with an intelligent craft and understated assurance, a quietly spoken, humanistic brilliance, here in the city of reason. My city. Nobody in the United Kingdom is cooking or eating better than this...."

The Chivas Gallery is a bar, gallery and function suite at Strathisla Distillery. Contagious was asked by the client to transform the space to create a premium environment for VIP and trade guests.
The gallery needed to reflect the new brand packaging and communication, however the budget
was limited so a full refurburbishment was out of the question. The space was improved by focusing
on the bar and using a new colour palette, furniture and fixings to embody the spirit of Chivas.
